Here's an update from our classroom! The month of January was a busy time for our 4th graders. We partnered with UM to create opinion videos about the US-Mexico border wall. They inquired into the meaning of walls and then investigated the US-Mexico border wall specifically. After doing this research, groups of 4th graders formed their own opinions with reasons and evidence, and then worked together to make iMovie's to express their opinions.
We started a new unit of inquiry under the theme of How We Organize Ourselves!
How We Organize Ourselves (Inquiry/Writing/Reader's Workshop)
Mark your calendars because all of 4th grade will be presenting their work at our 4th Grade World's Fair on Monday 3/19! The fair will start at 6pm in the Multipurpose Room. Student work will be displayed around the room and families will be free to explore and ask students questions about their work. It will be a great celebration of their hard work during this Unit of Inquiry.
- Wednesday 2/28 - Early Release Day (Dismissal at 1:29pm)
- Monday 3/19 @ 6pm - 4th Grade World's Fair in Multipurpose Room
- Wednesday 3/14 - Music Field Trip
On Wednesday March 14th, Mitchell's fourth graders will be taking a field trip to Hill Auditorium to hear the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. The theme of the concert is "The Orchestra Rocks!" Students are learning how instruments work to make sound, and this is a great introduction for them as they get ready to choose a band or orchestra instrument in 5th grade. Students will leave at 9:15 and will return before lunch. More information will be coming home soon, so stay tuned!
