Hello families,
It's already the middle of April! The school year is flying by, and we've got a packed couple of months ahead.
Here's what's been going on in our classroom:

Sharing the Planet (Inquiry/Writing/Reader's Workshop)
We've been learning about animal/plant adaptations and how people adapt to different regions and climates in the classroom. Leslie Science and Nature Center came to us at Mitchell to do some activities related to adaptations in birds, and we went for a walk in Scarlett Woods together to observe and learn together. We also had many discussions about the nuances of trading through role plays in the classroom. Students learned about different regions in the US and have written poetry about their regions. We will be sharing these poems with kindergarteners next week! Overall, we've been learning a lot together, especially how to use Google Docs and Slides! I'd love to share their work with you, so please email me and let me know if you'd like to see their poems. You can also just ask your student to sign into their account and show you themselves as well :)
Math
Unit 6 is finished! We have two more math units left. I encourage students to continue learning their basic multiplication facts at home. We learned division and how to use the partial quotients method this past unit, so please continue to work with your students on division at home!
M-STEP/NWEA
M-STEP is coming up. 4th grade will take this state assessment in a couple of weeks. Here are our test dates:
Wednesday 5/2/18 - M-STEP ELA
M-STEP Math TBD
I will update you all when our Math date is finalized! After M-STEP, we will also be taking the NWEA for math and reading as well.
Please prepare your students at home and encourage them to do their best! Make sure they get good rest as well. Thank you!
