How the World Works
Our Who We Are celebration went well. Thanks for coming out to see what we've been working on! We started a new Unit of Inquiry this past month. The transdisciplinary theme is How the World Works (HTWW) and our central idea is: people use and convert energy to make things happen. In this unit, we've been learning about different forms and purposes of energy, how energy changes, and thinking about design solutions to energy problems. Project Lead The Way (PLTW) has happening and is closely tied to the work we're doing in this unit! We also got to go on a field trip at the beginning of this month to Ann Arbor Hands On Museum (AAHOM) and partake in a physics lab that's also tied to our unit of inquiry.
In PLTW, students are thinking about potential and kinetic energy and designing safety solutions for vehicles. They've built cars that will be used to test different restraint systems so that their egg is protected.

Math
We took our Unit 2 Post-Assessment and beat our class goal of 80%! I'm so proud of our class, and we will be celebrating our success tomorrow with a pizza party during lunchtime. We've already begun Unit 3, which focuses in on fractions and decimals. This unit tends to be challenging for 4th graders, but I believe we'll be able to learn these concepts together as a team! Our students are troopers!
Reading
We've finished working on story-mapping and have been learning about different informational text structures. Informational texts are often organized in different ways. For example, there is text that compares and contrasts information so that students are able to see similarities and differences within the text. We have been focusing on various goals within our guided reading groups and reading informational texts together.
Writing
Our class has worked on planning and writing a myth narrative. They're in the process of typing their work on Google Docs and making illustrations. I had a friend who works for Marvel come in and share his story/work with the students as well. They've really been enjoying the work during our writing/inquiry times!
