I hope everyone has been keeping warm! Here are a couple updates on what's been going on in our classroom.
How We Organize Ourselves
Innovation affects the way people use money and resources.
In this unit, we've been learning about innovation and how the economy works. We learned about four different types of economies, identified products we're interested in learning more about and potentially innovating, and the circular flow model. We will begin PLTW again next week on Monday where students will learn about input/output systems and do some basic coding. We're pumped to do this work and can't wait to show our work at the 4th Grade World's Fair, which will be happening Monday 3/16 6:00-7:00pm in the multi-purpose room! All 4th grade classes will be showing their work, so we hope to see you there.
Math
Unit 5 is coming to an end. We've learned how to decompose fractions, add/subtract fractions and mixed numbers, creating line plots, finding lines of symmetry in shapes, and more. We've also started using a new program in our classroom called Dreambox. Dreambox is an adaptive program that differentiates according to where students are at and helps them work on skills specific to their needs. You can learn more about it here. Students can access it through their Clever accounts, so feel free to ask them about this program.
Reading
Our focus has been on informational text structures the past couple of weeks. We learned about the following text structures: Sequential/Chronological, Compare and Contrast, Cause and Effect, Problem and Solution, and Descriptive. These structures are ways in which authors choose to organize information in their informational texts. We've been reading many different examples of informational texts and identifying which structure the author used to write their text. I hope students are able to engage with informational texts outside of school!
