We're wrapping up our first unit of inquiry under the theme Who We Are. Students have bene working hard on their infographics on rights and responsibilities of American citizens, so look out for them on Seesaw!
How the World Works
We've begun our next unit of inquiry. The theme is How the World Works, and our central idea is: people use and convert energy to make things happen. We will be going to the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum on at the end of this month and participating in a rollercoaster physics lab to expand our understanding of energy. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) has also begun, and students have been observing potential and kinetic energy in different objects.
Math
We are working on Unit 2. Students have been learning about factors, multiples, how to find area, and identifying prime and composite numbers. Continue to practice multiplication facts with your students at home!
Reading
We've been learning about story elements in our reading. The elements we're focusing in on are the following: setting, character/character traits, problem/conflict, rising action, turning point, resolution, and lesson. Support your student by having conversations at home about these elements in their reading.

Early Release Day – Wednesday, October 24
All AAPS elementary students will be released at 1:29 PM on Wednesday, October 24. All teachers will participate in professional development in the afternoon. Please plan to pick your child up on this day at 1:29 PM. Lunch will be served at school, buses will run as normal and will depart Mitchell by 1:40 PM. Buses will run the regular routes.
Late Morning Arrivals
We are noticing many students who are arriving late to school. As a reminder, the bell rings at 8:56. Please make sure children are dropped off for school on time. Late student arrivals cause disruptions to classrooms when kids and teachers have already begun their day of learning. Please do your very best to have your children to school on time.
Thank you for help,
Matt
